Indian medical students finally got permission to go abroad for treatment. The National Medical Commission changed the rules only after receiving a green signal from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). It is said that this rule will be in force for the time being for 10 years.

After this recognition, Indian students can go for study or treatment in USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Currently, there are 706 medical colleges under this accreditation. However, new medical colleges established in the next 10 years will also be automatically recognized by WFME.

According to a section of medical boards, this move will bring global recognition to India. India would become an attractive educational destination for international students. Also, NMC will have the privilege of improving the quality of medical education in India which will give them global status. The WFME accreditation process requires each medical college to pay a fee of Rs 4,98,5142 ($60,000), which covers the travel and accommodation expenses of the site visit team.
